Development of textured yarn Sep 06, 2022
At first, the appearance of textured yarn was just to increase the bulkiness of fiber by changing the geometric properties of fiber materials, like cotton and fine wool, so that products have plump and warm properties. Through various deformation processes, filament yarn overcomes the shortcomings of filament yarn, has many characteristics of staple yarn (such as expansibility and warmth retention), reduces investment and cost, improves product quality and production efficiency, and expands the use of filament yarn.
As early as the 1930s, Smith & Sons carpet company of the United States used stuffing box technology to improve the crimping performance of South American wool.
In 1932, heberlein of Switzerland invented the deformation processing method of rayon yarn and obtained the first patent for the crimping deformation of rayon (Applied in 1932 and named nigrila, trade name)
In the 1940s, with the industrial production and application of thermoplastic synthetic fibers (nylon and polyester), modified yarns developed rapidly. Because synthetic fiber is thermoplastic, its filament can change the macromolecular arrangement structure in the fiber through "deformation heat setting" under mechanical action, and control the heat setting process to obtain deformed yarn with ideal curling effect.
In the 1950s, companies in Switzerland, the United States and Japan used the batch process of twisting, heat setting and untwisting polyamide filaments (classical method). This method can be carried out on any twisting equipment with a "steamer". Disadvantages: many processes, high cost and low productivity.
Subsequently, celanise company of Britain proposed two-step deformation and one-step deformation processing method false twist deformation processing method. (false twist texturing), which was produced industrially in the 1950s and gradually replaced the classical three-step deformation processing method. It is characterized by short process, low cost and one-step completion.
Polyamide textured yarn produced by Toray in Japan in 1951 by false twist texturing process, trade name: woolie nylon.
In 1958, British nylon spinner company developed friction false twister and hoburn company developed the first friction false twister textured yarn machine.
In 1959, the British Imperial Chemical Company produced false twist textured yarn (poly (acyl) with high bulkiness and low extensibility by using secondary heat setting (box).
DuPont company of the United States pioneered the air modification processing method, mainly processing medium, coarse and special yarns to make decorative fabrics and carpets.
